Separation at Bocas

We cruised over smooth as glass night waters to and from Red Frog beach on Isla Bastimentos Friday night where we lounged around a bonfire and watched a slideshow of gnarly Bocas surfing photos collected by the lively host, an expat from Maui.

Today was Amanda´s last day in Bocas, and hence her last chance to soak up the sun before heading home, so we made our way to a new beach, Playa Polo, where we spent the day lazily scouring for shells up and down the quiet stretch of sand. The sea was rough today & Polo is blessed with endless surfable tubes along it´s shore which combined made our taxi ride quite an adventure. The three of us felt like we were on a rollercoaster riding, or more like bouncing, in the front of the boat- we basically surfed up & down over the swells squealing as we repeatedly slapped down against the water, our stomachs dropping. Once in view of the beach, the driver sped through a narrow calm between the waves to drop us onshore. The ride alone was worth the day´s transport fee.

For our Easter dinner, and also last dinner together as a foursome, we made ourselves at home in a floating Chinese restaurant and ordered a holiday-worthy feast. The girls left me (and all their leftovers) behind in Bocas today as they made their way to San Jose where they will drop off Amanda to fly home and get on another bus themselves bound back to Tamarindo. I will stay behind to give Bocas a little more personal attention- beginning a week of Spanish classes with Spanish by the Sea and also moving across the water to the nearby shore of Isla Carenero to rent out the private dorm attached to Alex's perfection of a paradise beach bungalow.
